University of Michigan-Flint’s Esports Team

The University of Michigan-Flint’s e-sports team competes through the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE), as well as AVGL (American Video Game League), CRL (Collegiate Rocket League), Esports U, UGC League (United Gaming Clans League), and Level Next. With opportunities for tournaments year round throughout the entire nation, there is more than plenty of competition to go around and the resources are certainly available to facilitate such contests to our members. The team’s on campus home is located on the second floor of the university Riverfront building and is loaded with 18 Alienware PCs along with a three-screen Sparco racing simulator, a PlayStation 5, Xbox 1, and a Nintendo Switch all for competition and/or practice at any time. Our e-sports team competes in Rocket League, Valorant, Fortnite, Overwatch, League of Legends, Call Of Duty, Super Smash Bros, Apex Legends, Counter Strike, Racing simulators, and Rivals of Aether, but the team is always looking to expand our horizon into any other games students may be interested in competing in.

As the industry and audience for e-sports continues expanding, the educational system will soon adjust nationwide as well. However, with many of today’s and even future college students having grown up with video games, or e-sports on some level, UM-Flint is already geared with a program to grant students a certificate in E-sports management so that students may merge their love for e-sports with a possible degree and future career path. UM-Flint e-sports will not only allow students to compete together to further their skills and express their competitiveness, but it will also allow for students to learn together and further their education for possible careers within the e-sports industry.
